We are pretty sure that most people know Google offers a wide variety of applications from Adsense to word processing. Some of these are heavily geared towards larger businesses but many are geared towards smaller businesses. While most of these are really great and should be used by any business, there are a few out there that should not be. Chances are you have no idea which ones are which.

What is Twitter

Many people in the B2B world are still very new to Social Networks and marketing. Twitter is becoming more and more of a household name in that arena. Basically the idea of Twitter is for individuals to engage in short conversations with one another that are open for all to join in on. It takes the idea of social media and amplifies it.

One of the largest tasks we face everyday at work is how to find information faster. We all know that if you put in a search in Google you will be met with paid ads and about a million results that are really nothing but crap. So most of your time is spent sifting through it all to find what you are looking for. TrueNorth has a couple nifty tricks for you to help speed up your search as well as come up with more qualified results.

Try Google’s new search-based Keyword Tool (www.google.com/sktool). With this tool you can get a better bearing on what your potential customers are searching for in your industry and which keywords you should use in your web site and online marketing strategies.

Demystifying RSS

You are probably wondering what all of this talk of RSS (RSS feeds, aggregators and readers) is and are having trouble figuring it all out. TrueNorth wants to help you out. If you haven’t noticed, Northwinds uses RSS to distribute email as well as updates directly to you. So knowing how to use and manage it is kind of a big deal. Once learning how to receive the feeds on your favorite subjects, you may not browse the Internet the same again. You have been warned.

Online Social Media

It’s almost impossible to talk about the Internet, web redesign or E-Marketing without touching upon aspects of Social Media. This is something that has been growing over the past few years as Blogging and RSS have gained popularity and dominance over the web.

By now almost everyone is using FireFox for web browsing. IE6 & 7 are a not far behind but FireFox is, for now, the frontrunner. It also happens to be the browser of choice for me on a MAC. A major factor in this is its Add-on capability that launches it way past Safari (the next logical choice for MAC users).

As great as FireFox is, Add-ons make it much better and they can be used in any number of combinations making FireFox as customizable as you may want it to be. To help you get the most out of FireFox, I am listing some of the top Add-ons as well as a couple personal favorites.

If you own an iPhone you may have noticed that you can bookmark websites and add them to your home screen. I am sure you are thinking how cool it would be for your site to have one of those hot icons right on your phone. It is actually a very simple thing to do if you have an image editor and access to your web site directories. You don’t even need to know HTML, however it wouldn’t hurt.

As we enter into 2009 and many companies are turning to E-Marketing Strategies, TrueNorth wants to remind you all of the governing laws for using email as a commercial tool. These are guidelines, these are laws.

The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 (Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act) establishes requirements for those who send commercial email, spells out penalties for spammers and companies whose products are advertised in spam if they violate the law, and gives consumers the right to ask emailers to stop spamming them.
